The Farncombe Experience
What can I expect…?
We thought you might like to see a typical Farncombe course itinerary. Most of our courses run from Friday evening to Sunday after lunch and the example below does just that. If your course runs from Sunday to Tuesday, just transpose the days!
Summer schools and longer courses are bookended in the same format and all are fully-catered. Non-residential students and day courses give you everything except the Bed and Breakfast.
A typical weekend
- Friday Afternoon/Evening
You’ll arrive sometime after 4pm on a Friday, giving you time to settle in to your en-suite bedroom and unpack.
You will be given a welcome drink voucher and from about 6pm people start to meet in the bar. One of our duty managers will give a short welcome talk and at 7pm you go in to our pleasant dining room for three-course dinner with coffee.
- Saturday Morning
It’s one long food fest at Farncombe – you won’t go hungry! Full English breakfasts are served with fruit, fresh toast and coffee. After breakfast, your course really gets underway.
- More food…
Lunch (usually at 1 o’clock) and dinner (at 7pm) are three-course meals with coffee. On Saturday and on day courses, you’ll be served afternoon tea with freshly-made scones.
Most courses continue until Sunday after lunch or afternoon tea. For those who have transfers to Moreton-in-Marsh Station, the taxi leaves at 2.30pm.
Farncombe students are a sociable bunch and you won’t spend more time alone than you want to. Your fellow course members will be eating with you or near you – you are encouraged to mingle on big tables in our extended dining room. You’ll probably also meet for a drink and a chat in the lounge after dinner.
Many of our students arrive alone. Almost all leave with new friends.
